Observing cyber-physical systems in the wild
There is great fundamental research relating to aspects of CPS going on in academic and industry collaboration research labs. However, the varied set of applied skills required to design, implement, manage and decommission fully operational CPS have mostly come together in the commercial context, in existing or new industries seeking to exploit these new technologies.
A core focus of our research is to venture into the wild to observe existing and emergent Ai-driven systems. Increasingly complex CPS in varying stages of development can be found in a range of industry sectors. We seek to partner with individuals and organisations designing, developing, managing, and decommissioning a variety of CPS as well as those regulating and interacting with CPS.
Through this research we generate insights that will help guide a new branch of engineering into existence, through exploration of skills, team dynamics, and capacity building. At present we are exploring autonomy in mining and manufacturing, successes and failures in regulating CPS, and the interaction of technology with social and environmental movements.
